"In January 1965 Fender was sold to CBS ( Columbia Broadcasting System) for $13 million and became the Fender Musical Instruments division of Columbia Records Distribution Corporation. CBS poured million of dollars more into Fender and increased its output dramatically, but as a result quality gradually declined into the 1970s and the original team that had built up Fender grew disenchanted and one by one left the new organization"
